Anthony Johnson, Rich Clementi, Kazuhiro Nakamura, Lyoto Machida, Tyson Griffin and Thiago Tavares had their tests come back clean for performance enhancers, E.G. steroids.

They join Scott Junk, Christian Wellisch, Michihiro Omigawa, Matt Wiman, Jeremy Stevens and Diego Saraiva in the clean column.

Test results for Chuck Liddell, Keith Jardine, Mauricio Rua, Forrest Griffin Diego Sanchez and Jon Fitch will be available later this week.

Update: Those results are also in and all are clean.

Nakamura is the only one to have failed any kind of test, failing for Marijuana.

UFC 76 'Knockout' quick thoughts: The Light Heavyweight Division is a mess

Send News

I'd say that my heading is a pretty good indicator as to what I think is the biggest story coming out of UFC 76.

Lets look at the questions in order of importance?

  1. Who's next for Rampage?
I believe the answer to that question is Forrest Griffin. All of the other challengers have either suffered losses recently, Liddell, Rua or are busy with other things, Tito and Rashad. Jardine is possible but I'd think the fact Forrest has 2 wins in a row makes him the top challenger to Rampage at this point.

  2. What's next for Chuck Liddell?
This is an interesting question because he did lose 2 fights in a row and all night Mike Goldberg kept saying that if Liddell won he'd face Wanderlei silva in December. Fact is I really don't know what the UFC is going to do with Chuck next. I suppose they could still try the Silva fight but Goldberg was so insistant chuck needed a win it might be hard for them to go to that fight just yet.

  3. What about Wanderlei Silva?
Again, it is a case where you've got some guys who are occupied in the coming months and others you don't know what to do with at this point. If I'm the UFC, I give serious consideration to a Jardine Vs. Silva match. I think it would be a fun fight, and plus I don't really see how the UFC could lose by making that match. If Jardine wins then he takes the top spot for the belt after Forrest and if Silva wins then he's beaten a quality opponent in his UFC return.

  4. What's happening to the pride of Pride?
Mirko Cro Cop 1-2 in the UFC. Since returning Dan Henderson is 0-1. Mauricio Rua 0-1. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira 1-0 but should probably be 0-1 and Kazuhiro Nakamura 0-1. Its a good thing this isn't the Super bowl of MMA otherwise it would be like the time San Francisco beat Denver 55-10.
Maybe its the differences between ring and octagon. Maybe its the difference between UFC and Pride rules. Perhaps it may have something to do with the fact that no drug testing took place in Japan. Maybe the reason is different for each guy, but the established UFC guys have gotten the better of the newcomers from Pride.

  5. Will people stop looking at Alumni of the Ultimate Fighter as second class citizens?
Forrest Griffin beat Mauricio Rua who many including myself believed was the top Light Heavyweight in the world. Keith Jardine defeated Chuck Liddell who is the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion and one of the most dominant fighters in the history of the organization. These guys didn't beg for legitimacy, they reached out and yanked it for themselves. Guys who use TUF to get to the UFC can't be looked upon as reality show stars first and fighters second, they are clearly for real. Some of us knew this a long time ago but tonight put an exclamation mark on the end.

  6. Is there any fighter who is consistently more entertaining than Tyson Griffin?
He's had 3 fights this year and gone 2-1 and all have been incredible fights and fight of the year contenders. I'd like to see him finish some guys but he's welcome on my TV any time.

  7. What's next for Jon Fitch, Diego Sanchez?
The win will move Fitch up in the ladder of contention. Unfortunately, he's behind GSP and he's behind Matt Hughes. GSP won't get his shot at the Hughes-Serra winner until the spring and it will be longer for Fitch.
You can't have this guy sit out until then, so he's got to fight someone. I believe after his fight in March he said he wanted Kro Parisyan. If Parisyan is victorious in November, set up a Fitch-Parisyan match and have the winner of that face the winner of the GSP match against either Hughes and Serra. That's a more realistic option than having GSP fight Fitch with the winner moving on because UFC sees money in both GSP and Serra 2 and GSP-Hughes 3. So if Karo is victorious in November November, it would give he and Fitch both a legit claim at the next shot. Karo still feels he has a claim at a shot getting injured before his UFC 56 bout and not being granted an immediate match.
As for Sanchez, you could always do Sanchez-Koscheck 3. Sure, the second fight was boring but part of that had to do with Sanchez' staff infection. Otherwise, you're going to have to find someone or bring someone in for that spot. With a log-jam at Welterweight, you wonder if some won't soon be making the jump to the WEC. I'm not suggesting that for either Fitch or Sanchez but for some on the lower level it might be a good idea. Plus, there's going to be an influx of talent in that division after TUF 6 is concluded.

  8. What about the lightweight title?
If Sean Sherk is stripped which seems likely, this is what I would do. I would have Kenny Florian Vs. Tyson Griffin and BJ Penn Vs. Joe Stevenson. I'd either have those be tournament bouts or I'd have Florian-Griffin determine the top contender to a Penn-Stevenson winner. I actually lean toward the second option because if I were doing a tournament I'd have Penn and Stevenson as the top 2 seads.

So there's my look at where some of the things stand after UFC 76. I think it is safe to say my Light Heavyweight rankings need revising.

UFC 76 'Knockout' Live Round by Round Coverage

Send News

Welcome to Combat-Hooligans.com's live coverage of UFC 76 'Knockout'.
The coverage officially begins at 9:00 CT, 10:00 ET. I'll have prelim results posted before then however.

Refresh your browser for the latest.

Preliminary Results:

  1. Matt Wiman def. Michihiro Omigawa by Unanimous Decision at 5:00, R3
  2. Christian Wellisch def. Scott Junk by Submission (heel hook) at 3:19, RD1
  3. Jeremy Stevens Def. Diego Saraiva by Unanimous Decision at 5:00 R3
  4. Rich Clementi Def. Anthony Johnson by submission (Rear Naked choke 3:05 R2

The live coverage has begun. Wade and Scott are here, and the food for the fight is supplied by Dominos Pizza.
The 3 bouts highlighted in the Preshow were Jardine-Liddell, Shogun-Griffin and Fitch-Sanchez. Even though they hyped 3 fights we saw each hype package 3-times.

Goldberg says if Liddell wins, it will be him and Wanderlei Silva, I believe he even mentioned December.

  1. Lightweight Bout: Tyson Griffin Vs. Thiago Tavares
    Referee: Steve Mazagatti

R1: Starts out kinda slow, but the crowd booing gets them moving. We've got moves and counters and some nice reversals on the ground. Tyson Griffin is the one who got the better of the exchanges, countering all of Tavares' ground work.

Scoring: 10-9 for Griffin as he countered everything and stayed on top and in control the entire round. Really fast paced.

R2: Tavares hits a knee early which knocks Griffin down. Tavares hits some hammerfists as he's got top position. Stood up briefly and then back to the ground and Tavares gets the mount. Tavares locks on a body triangle. Griffin escapes and ends up on top but Tavares traps him in an armbar. Griffin escapes. Griffin starts to land some shots from the top. Thiago gets in to side control and we get more reversals. Griffin has busted Tavares open near the right eyebrow.

Scoring: Tavares' round 10-9 but it is very close and you could have Griffin up 20-18.

R3: An exchange of knees standing before Tavares takes him down. Tavares works for position and it is all wasted as Griffin is able to transition out.

Rogan says that the 10 point must system isn't cutting it.

Thiago Takes Griffin's back for the third time and again Griffin is able to escape.

    Hell-of-a-fight!!!

Scoring: Tavares 10-9 but it is very close. Tough one to judge, I have it 29-28 for Tavares but if you have it 30-27 for Griffin I won't argue, though I believe round 2 was clearly Thiago's. 29-28 Tavares

    Winner: Tyson Griffin - Unanimous Decision (29-28m 30-27, 29-28)
Nobody got Hamilled here, I really do have no issue with the decision.

Griffin says words to Rogan, none of them are consequential.

They showed Wanderlei Silva in attendance, he got a big pop. Goldberg did say he'd fight Liddell in December if Liddell wins tonight.

UFC 77 'Hostile Territory' Promo. Silva-Franklin, Vera-Sylvia are the top bouts.

I want Euan to respond to this comment Rogan made about Lyoto Machida. "He looked great against Sam Hoger, he looked great against David Heath".

  2. Light Heavyweight Bout: Lyoto Machida Vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura
    Referee: Big John McCarthy

R1: Fight is standing at first. Machida hits a body kick and Nakamura goes for a judo move but ends up slipping and on his back, Machida goes in to half guard. Kaz is able to escape and get back to his feet. A whole bunch of not much happens for awhile before Kaz ends up back on his back.
The last fight, this is not. End of the round finally comes.

    Scoring: 10-9 for Machida, Next!!!

R2: Machida comes out aggressive in round 2, takes Nakamura down and eventually ends up in the mount. A rear naked choke is hooked and then lost by Machida. Still on the mat, Machida presses Nakamura against the cage and is laying in some shots. I've decided I want to see Razor Ramon HG get in to MMA. Fuuuuuuuu~!
Finally it ends up back on the feet and Nakamura hits his best shot of the round. Its too bad there's only like a minute left. Nakamura gets Machida down and that's how the round ends.

Scoring: Machida 10-9, vast improvement over round 1.

R3: Nakamura comes out the aggressor in the third thorwing some jumping kicks and the like. They end up on the ground with Machida in the mount position.

Euan needs to respond to this Rogan comment as well: "There's a lot of people at 205 in the UFc, they don't want anybody boring."

Nakamura is bleeding and Machida is in control and is going to grind his way to a decision. The crowd starts booing and Machida picks up the pase. Nakamura hits an elbow at about the 20 second mark but it is too little too late.

Scoring: Machida 10-9, 30-27 in the fight.
They showed Silva again and it pops the crowd.

Winner: Lyoto Machida Unanimous (30-27) decision.

Fight was ok but not what I'd call good or something I want to see again.

  3. Welterweight Bout: Jon Fitch Vs. Diego Sanchez
    Referee: Herb Dean

R1: Diego charges in for a takedown right away. Not a lot of stuff happens after that to the point that the crowd starts to boo. Diego takes Fitch down but can't hold him, they get up and Fitch takes Diego to the ground. Diego hooks an armbar but has to let it go as he takes some knees to the body.Fitch keeps hitting shots and Diego keeps going for submissions.

Scoring: Close round maybe 10-9 for Sanchez.

R2: Fitch takes Diego down and in to half guard. Fitch tries an anaconda choke but lets go quickly. Back up and Sanchez catches a kick and takes Fitch down. Fitch reverses position and gets Diego's back. Now its Diego that has the top position, this is turning in to quite the fight. Fitch reverses and ends up on top and is laying in the punches and hammerfists.

Diego is cut open and the round ends.

Scoring: Fitch takes the second 10-9. I've got it 19-19 going in to the third.

R3: Fitch tries a high-kick but Diego blocks. Diego ends up hooking Fitch in a guillotine and Fitch just fights and fights and fights his way out to a crowd pop. I love this fight.
Fitch starts landing some shots to the body. Diego tries more stuff as Herb Dean calls for them to work more. Crowd starts booing at the 1:30 mark. Diego tries for another Kamura.

Diego hooks a triangle but Fitch is able to escape and get back on top. This round ends and this was 1 motherfucking awesome fight!!

Scoring: Diego had the 2 submissions so I give him the round 10-9, 29-28 Sanchez.

Winner: Jon Fitch split (30-27, 28-29, 29-28) Decision.
Rematch motherfucker!! I loved this fight, and since I predicted a Fitch victory I'm not going to argue with the result. No Hamilling here, and Rogan's first question to Fitch is about the 10 point must system.

  4. Light Heavyweight Bout: Mauricio Rua Vs. Forrest Griffin
    Referee: Steve Mazagatti

R1: Fun fight so far. They trade some leg kicks for a bit before it ends up on the ground with Rua in control. Forrest uses his closed guard to neutralize Rua and get up. Forrest takes Rua down and they fight more on the ground before moving back up. Forrest tries defending another Rua takedown and finally he goes down.

Scoring: Close round, very close, but Rua 10-9.

R2: Forrest starts with the jab and Rua goes for another takedown. Forrest tries a guillotine but doesn't get it. Forrest defending himself well on the ground. Rua with a big right. Forrest able to make his way back to his feet. Griffin takes Rua down. Rua takes a couple of deep breaths. Forrest hits a leg kick and his corner telling him that Rua is gassing. Griffin stuffs a takedown and tkaes Rua's back but only briefly. Forrest is landing some nice shots and Rua is looking at the clock.

Scoring: 10-9 for Griffin, 19-19 going to the third.

R3: Forrest hits another inside leg kick. A Rua takedown leads to nothing but crowd booing. Forrest going for a submission and has Rua in trouble but Rua is defending himself. Forrest nails some good punches from half guard. Rua gives up his back again to Griffin. Forrest hits some knees to the body. Forrest Griffin chokes out Shogun with about 15 seconds remaining. Randy Couture is a genius.

Winner: Forrest Griffin - Submission (Rear Naked Choke) 4:45 R3
Forrest Griffin has arrived. Jackson's next challenger?

Forrest thanks Rua for being a bad man. Then he tanks a bunch of other people and does the wacky Forrest interview.

  5. Light Heavyweight Bout: Chuck Liddell Vs. Keith Jardine
    Referee: Big John McCarthy

R1: They immediately go to the ground!!! Ha, fooled you. Standing with Jardine hitting some leg kicks and strikes, while Liddell makes him chase, which is the Liddell way of course. Jardine hits some more leg kicks and more strikes. Liddell is poked in the eye, which is usually what he does to guys. Liddell lands an uppercut and eats a right. Liddell starts to press with some punches but then Jardine hits some leg kicks.

Scoring: Jardine seemed to me to do the most damage, so his round 10-9.

R2: Jardine hits a body kick and then floors Chuck with a big right. Liddell gets up right away and takes another body kick. Jardine is clearly gaining confidence as this fight goes on. Keith hits another big right. Jardine with another leg kick and another, there's a welt on the left side of Liddell's body, he'll feel this for awhile. Jardine goes down and Liddell pounces. A knee and a spinning back fist. Jardine up and hits another body kick, it will suck to be Chuck in the morning. Another body shot and then another leg kick from Jardine they're clearly effective. Jardine is scoring more but seems the more tired of the 2.

Scoring: Jardine 10-9, 20-18 in the fight.
Chuck ended the round by going to the wrong corner.

R3: Thunderous leg kick by Jardine and another and a third from Jardine. Jardine is targetting the same spot with those kicks and has hit at least 5 in the round, and follows the last with a left hook. Jardine is just teaing off with kicks and Liddell can do nothing. Now he nails a couple of big shots with his fists. A flury ends the round, and we go to the judges.

    Scoring: Jardine 30-27.

    Winner: Keith Jardine split (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
The right decision. You can title this show, The Ultimate Fighters arrived.

My Thoughts: An awesome UFC event with only 1 clunker of a fight. A question arises as to what is next for Liddell and Wanderlei Silva but this night signaled to me that you can't call the TUF guys lesser fighters.

UFC 76 'Knockout' Preview and Predictions

Send News

Welcome to my preview and predictions for UFC 76 ‘Knockout’. I must admit that I’m looking forward to this show more than I have to any other UFC show all year. I think 4 of the 5 matches have the potential to be very entertaining fights and a couple have some major title implications. I’m going to break down the card in my usual way and my 1979 U.S. quarter is here for 1 last go-round in our battle for supremacy.

Welterweight Bout:
Anthony "Rumble" Johnson:23, 6'2, 170, 4-0-0
Vs.
Rich "No Love" Clementi: 31, 5'9, 170, 34-12-1
This fight was made on short notice as a replacement for the postponed Light Heavyweight contest between Jason Lambert and Wilson Gouveia. At Fight Night 10 on 06/12 of this year, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson made his UFC debut on just a few days notice. In his bout with Chad Reiner, Johnson made a statement and introduced himself to the UFC with a 13 second KO. He was set to face Jess Liaudin at UFC 75 but withdrew due to injury.
Clementi is a veteran of the UFC and was a cast member on the Ultimate Fighter season 4. Clementi is 1-3 in the UFC with the loan victory coming over Ross Pointon at Fight Night 8 back on 01/25. His last loss was to Roan Carneiro at Fight Night 9 on 04/05.
It is hard to get a read on Johnson after only 13 seconds of action but he is pretty charismatic and does have the ability to KO someone in 13 seconds. This smacks of “Lets get this guy another fight we think he can win”, so that they can make him a star. Sometimes it works, sometimes it backfires. Clementi has the experience edge but I became a fan of Johnson and am predicting him to win.
Winner: Anthony Johnson
Coin Picks: Rich Clementi

Lightweight Bout (Dark):
Michihiro "Micci" Omigawa: 31, 5'6, 155, 4-4-0
Vs.
"Handsome" Matt Wiman: 23, 5'10, 155, 7-3-0
Matt Wiman is coming off an appearance on the Ultimate Fighter 5 where he was a quarter-finalist and a victory over Brian Geraghty on the TUF 5 Finale on 06/23.
Omigawa is a student of Judo and came to MMA in 2005. His record is .500 but what does that really mean?
Wiman is a pretty well rounded fighter with Jiu-jitsu and a good standup game.
I’m going with Wiman on the count of familiarity.
Winner: Matt Wiman
Coin Picks: Michihiro Omigawa

Heavyweight Bout (Dark):
Christian "The Hungarian Nightmare" Wellisch: 6'3, 237, 8-2-0
Vs.
Scott Junk: 28, 6'1, 265, 6-1-0
Junk is making his UFC debut and is a replacement for Justin McCully. I know that Junk has fought primarily in Hawaii but that’s about all I know. I’m not real familiar with Wellisch either but he is 1-1 in the UFC with a win over Anthony Perosh at UFC 66, which followed his debut loss to Cheick Kongo at UFC 62.
In a case like this, I’ve got to look for some flimsy and wacky reason to justify my pick. Thank God Wellisch provided me with such a reason.

Strengths: My Chin and my grapefruits

I love that answer, so he will win.
Winner: Christian Wellisch
Coin Picks: Christian Wellisch

Lightweight Bout (Dark):
Diego "The Octopus" Saraiva: 25, 5'6, 155, 9-5-1
Vs.
Jeremy "Lil' Heathen" Stevens: 21, 5'9, 155, 14-3-0
This is a must win fight for both of these men. Saraiva is 0-2 so far and this is the last fight on his initial UFC contract. He lost to Dustin Hazelett at UFC 67 and then to Jorge Gurgel in what was said to be an entertaining fight at UFC 73. He’s a strong Brazilian Jiu-jitsu fighter and he was close to winning the Gurgel fight.
Stevens is making his second appearance in the Octagon after losing to Din Thomas at UFC 71. The finish was pretty spectacular as Stevens had an armbar on and Thomas lifted him up and powerbombed him down knocking him out winning the fight. Stevens took time away from the UFC since then going 1 and 1 in a couple of smaller shows. UFC doesn’t really like it when guys who are under deals to them lose in fights to non-UFC contracted talent.
Stevens is more a standup fighter while Saraiva prefers things on the ground. Stevens is a very young fighter at the age of 21 and is said to have a bright future. Saraiva really needs this fight. If it stays up Stevens should have the advantage but if Saraiva can get him to the ground it could be a short night for Stevens. I’ll predict Saraiva by third round submission.
Winner: Diego Saraiva
Coin Picks: Jeremy Stevens

Welterweight Bout:
Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez: 25, 5'11, 170, 19-1-0
Vs.
Jon Fitch: 29, 6'0, 170, 19-2-0
Diego Sanchez is coming off a loss to Josh Koscheck at UFC 69 where everyone predicted that Koscheck could out wrestle Sanchez but he ended up out striking him. Sanchez nearly retired before the fight due to a very bad staff infection that didn’t come out until after the fight was well over. The fight was expected to be a classic between 2 bitter rivals but ended up drawing a lot of boos from the Houston crowd.
Jon Fitch is on a very long winning streak and is undefeated in the UFC. His last victory was over Roan Carneiro back at Fight Night 10 on 06/12. Fitch is one of those guys who it was hard for UFC to find opponents for because he’s so good and was so unknown. There is a connection between Fitch and Koscheck that may work to Fitch’s advantage in this fight.
Fitch is a wrestler and Sanchez is a striker. But Fitch also possesses some power of his own and is definitely on a hot streak.
It is hard to imagine Sanchez losing 2 fights in a row, but the possibility is strong. Fitch has shown an ability to recover from trouble and turn the tables back in his favor. I’m going to go with Fitch by second round submission in his true coming out party to a PPV audience.
Winner: Jon Fitch
Coin Picks: Diego Sanchez

Light Heavyweight Bout:
Kazuhiro "Kaz" Nakamura: 28, 5'10, 205, 11-6-0
Vs.
Lyoto Machida: 29, 6'1, 205, 10-0-0
This is the lesser of the Pride debuts on this show. Nakamura is ranked by many in the bottom half of the top 10 Light Heavyweights in the world. Machida is known for not being very aggressive and thus he’s got a lot of decision wins, in fact his wins over both Sam Hoger and David Heath in the UFC have been by decision. Euan can tell you how exciting that fight with Heath was since he saw it live.
I’ve not seen Nakamura but he is a judo practitioner. I really don’t expect this to be a standup fight as it really isn’t the style of either. It may be hard for Machida to engage given his overwhelming willingness to not do so. I’m going to say that this time Nakamura defeats Machida by Unanimous decision in a lackluster fight.
Winner: Kazuhiro Nakamura
Coin Picks: Kazuhiro Nakamura

Light Heavyweight Bout:
Forrest Griffin: 28, 6'3, 205, 14-4-0
Vs.
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua: 25, 6'1, 205, 16-2-0
Time to talk about the debut of the man who many consider to be the top Light Heavyweight in the world. Rua holds a victory over Quinton Jackson back in 2005. He’s outstanding at pretty much all aspects of the game.
One thing about Rua is that Pride fighters haven’t faired so well in the UFC lately. Rua will not be able to use the lethal soccer kicks that were so effective for him in some of his Pride destructions.
Across the way is a vastly improved Forrest Griffin. Griffin learned after being knocked out by Keith Jardine at UFC 66 that it was ok to avoid getting punched in the face. So at UFC 72 he was bobbing and weaving and fighting a more intelligent fight against Hector Ramirez. It wasn’t as exciting as many of Forrest’s prior fights but he’ll take that over being knocked out any day.
Expect a standup fight here though if it does go to the ground, Forrest Griffin is in trouble. In the words of Griffin from Wednesday’s fight night: “Rua’s very good and that sucks”, and everyone including all the guys at the HTF who I’ve been touting Rua to for the better part of a year will find out. Of course, a loss is not out of the question.
Winner: Mauricio Rua
Coin Picks: Mauricio Rua

Lightweight Bout:
Thiago Tavares: 22, 5'7, 155, 16-0-0
Vs.
Tyson Griffin: 23, 5'6, 155, 9-1-0
Thiago Tavares is 2-0 in the UFC with a decision victory over Naoyuki Kotani on 04/05 at Fight Night 9. He followed that up with a submission of Jason Black at Fight Night 10 on 06/12 by submission in the second round. He’s very strong and he’s proficient in Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu.
Tyson Griffin is one of the more exciting fighters in the 155-pound division. He is 2-1 in the UFC with a submission victory over David Lee at UFC 63 followed by a Unanimous Decision loss to Frankie Edgar at UFC 67. The Edgar fight was a potential fight of the year candidate and he followed it up with a controversial split decision win over Clay Guida at UFC 72 on 06/16.
This should make for an exciting fight with both men willing to let the fight go where it goes. Griffin is a wrestler but he has no problem standing and Tavares is also unafraid to stand as well.
One thing about Griffin is that while he’s a good fighter, he’s the only man to beat WEC Featherweight Champ Urijah Faber; his last 2 fights have been close. In fact, I thought he lost the Guida fight and was surprised a little when he got the win.
This is a close call but I’m going to go with Thiago Tavares because he’s looked more dominant lately though Griffin’s last 2 fights have been against tougher competition. I expect a unanimous decision win for Tavares.
Winner: Thiago Tavares
Coin Picks: Thiago Tavares

Light Heavyweight Bout:
"The Dean of Mean" Keith Jardine: 31, 6'2, 205, 12-4-1
Vs.
"The Ice Man" Chuck Liddell: 37, 6'2, 205, 20-4-0
This is a big bout in the 205-pound division. Liddell and Jardine are both coming off of losses at UFC 76. Jardine was upset by the 6-to-1 underdog Houston Alexander while Liddell was knocked out cold by Quinton Jackson ending his 7-fight win streak and UFC Light Heavyweight Championship reign.
Neither Jardine nor Liddell can afford to drop back-to-back fights. Liddell wants to rematch Jackson and before then a dream match with Wanderlei Silva is possibly in the cards. Jardine would drop out of contention and face a long road back should he lose his second in a row.
People wondered when the bout was announced if it was a main event level fight. The fact that both men are coming off of loses makes that a fair question but the reality is that any fight Chuck Liddell is in is a main event level fight. Had both of them been victorious at UFC 71, nobody would be asking if it was main event worthy.
You know what you’re going to get from both of these guys at this point. It is going to be a standup fight. Liddell is good at defending takedowns and getting back to his feet but I don’t see Jardine trying to go there. So the question is which one of these guys is the better striker? The answer is obviously Liddell. Now this doesn’t mean Jardine has no hope because Liddell can be knocked out. However, Liddell’s fighting stance is so unique it is hard to train for let alone to find someone with Liddell’s power.
I’m going to not go out on a limb by predicting that Liddell is going to knock Jardine out, maybe early second round if it isn’t over by then.
Winner: Chuck Liddell
Coin Picks: Keith Jardine

I’ll have live round-by-round coverage and scoring starting at 10:00 PM ET. You can check out the rest of the staff’s predictions Click Here

Press Release for UFC 76 'Knockout' is here

Sorry for providing just the link but I'm still behind, very tired and generally lazy.

I've already mentioned before that I'm looking forward to seeing Rua in the UFC and that the 3 top bouts for UFC 76 including the 2 mentioned plus Jon Fitch Vs. Diego Sanchez in a Welterweight clash interest me greatly.
