Din Thomas in some legal hot water.

Send News and Event Results

PORT ST. LUCIE — Din Thomas, almost a legend in the ultimate fighting world, was arrested Tuesday after police say he ran “illegal cage fighting” matches
at a local training studio that he runs, a police spokesman said.

Thomas, 31, faces a felony prohibited competitions charge after police got a tip Oct. 19 about the matches at a facility he uses in St. Lucie West.

Inside, they observed two men fighting in an octagon-shaped ring surrounded by about 150 spectators. The fights reportedly weren’t sanctioned.

Dan Henderson fighting again in December?

Send News and Event Results

Bubba the Love Sponge mentioned on his Sirius radio show that he ran in to Pride Welterweight champion Dan Henderson in Las Vegas over the weekend. According to Bubba, Henderson told him that he could be fighting as soon as December. Henderson did not mention a possible opponent nor did he mention whether it would be at the 12/08 Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale or the 12/29 UFC 79 'Nemesis' card. He did tell Bubba that a fight at 185 was a possibility.

It is believed that Henderson has one fight left on his Pride contract which he was working under. He and the UFC are negotiating on a new deal, but at last word the sides weren't exactly what you'd call close.

This is the song that never ends, it just goes on and on my friends, some people started singing it...

Send News and Event Results

According to Sam Caplan the UFC will be holding a press conference tomorrow at 4:00 PM ET where Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White will address the statements made by Randy Couture in his press conference last week. You'll be able to watch the press conference at UFC.com

I was tempted to use the above song quote, or some lyrics from the circle of life in the title. Either would have been oddly appropriate.

I'll let you know when the Couture camp schedules its rebuttal press conference. How could one not be coming at this point?

I have a solution, I will offer Randy Couture and the UFC a chance to engage in a Lincoln-Douglas debate using official LD rules. I will be the judge because I've got several years worth of LD Debate experience and was quite good in my day. We'll settle this like gentlemen!

UFC/Spike TV deal extended through 2011

Send News and Event Results

TV Week reports that Spike TV has extended UFC's deal through 2011. The agreement includes four more seasons of "The Ultimate Fighter", four UFC Fight nights for every year and 39 episodes of "UFC Unleashed".

“We are paying the UFC more money than Joe Torre turned down from the Yankees,” said Kevin Kay, president of Spike TV, which picked up the UFC after World Wrestling Enterprises moved to USA Network. “The most important thing for me is we’re still in business with the UFC and we secured our future long-term with them, because I think we’re both critical to each other’s success.”

UFC News and Notes

Send News and Event Results

The Canadian press has an article with some quick news and notes which you can read here

Some of the more interesting things they point out is that Brandon Vera nearly walked away with as much money for losing as Anderson Silva did for winning. However, don't forget that those are just released earnings and who knows how that shakes out with bonuses factored in the equasion.

Also, the article mentions that from 03/31 to 09/30 in the state of California there have been 43 drug test failures in the state of California. That spans 100 shows and includes steroids and street drugs.
Now where you can say that MMA has a drug problem is that 33 of those failures were MMA fighters, 8 were boxers and 2 were kick boxers. The article contains a further breakdown of how many people tested for what.

Thanks to Mike Informer for passing that on.
