Tick....tick...tick....boom.

Anyone remember a year ago when TNA signed Kurt Angle shortly he was released by WWE due to personal and drug related issues?

Anyone remember that more than a few people said that with Angle's behavior issues that he might well be a ticking timebomb without a significant testing and treatment program within TNA?

We were assured that Kurt would be taken care of by TNA, and that they would assure that substance abuse issues would not take place while he was in TNA. A year ago, Angle even admitted to his demons on a SPIKE TV interview where he told those viewing that he "hit rock bottom" after getting addicted to extra-strength Vicodin after undergoing neck surgery.

Then, there came September 28, 2007:

Kurt Angle charged with DUI

By: Cory Nealon, Times Staff

10/03/2007

MOON TWP. - Olympic gold medalist and professional wrestling star Kurt Angle was charged Friday with driving under the influence.

Moon Township police said they received a call from a motorist at 1:49 p.m. complaining that someone driving a white Cadillac nearly struck his vehicle in a restaurant parking lot. The motorist, who gave police the vehicle's license plate number, also said the Cadillac was driving erratically on Beaver Grade Road and almost hit a traffic sign. Police tracked the Cadillac to Angle's residence, which they did not identify.

Angle, 38, who has admitted an addiction to painkillers, told police he had been at the restaurant and driven home. He failed a sobriety test but refused a blood test. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and careless driving. He was released to appear in court at a later date. Angle, a Mount Lebanon native, is the current Total Nonstop Action Wrestling world champion. He could not be reached for comment.

A standout athlete at Mount Lebanon High School, Angle was a two-time NCAA Division 1 wrestling champion at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. He also won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

In 1991 he joined the World Wrestling Federation, where he won numerous accolades. He left the organization, which had morphed into World Wrestling Entertainment, last year. He joined TNA in September 2006 and soon after admitted to a painkiller addiction. He said last November, however, that he had been drug-free for more than a year. In March, Sports Illustrated reported that Angle was one of dozens of prominent athletes to receive steroids from a Florida wellness center. Angle disputed the report on his Web site.

Angle and his wife, Karen, who has appeared with him ringside, have two children.

Now I grant you, any reference to anti-inflammatory drugs probably means Motrin at worst. So "drugs" as such aren't the issue here...we hope. But alcohol is a drug, a pain-killing drug...killing emotional pain and physical pain. Alcohol paired with many other drugs creates a synergistic effect, which makes the effect of each drug much more pronounced than either substance by itself. A case in point was Vice President Dick Cheney's shooting of a hunting friend after consuming alcohol and the blood-thinner Cumidin.

Something that should be of even more concern is that this incident occurred at 1:49 pm, or rather the CALL from the motorist at 1:49 p.m. complaining that someone driving a white Cadillac nearly struck his vehicle in a restaurant parking lot cmae at that time, and Angle was apparently going HOME from a local bar. When in the hell did Angle start drinking that day, anyhow? 9:00 am?

That kind of indulgence can't be the best sign for Dixie Carter, who has Angle as her flagship wrestler for the new two-hour IMPACT on SpikeTV. Meanwhile in TNAland, no one from the promotion has publicly commented on the many mainstream articles about Angle's arrest. Neither have they commented in substance about Angle obtaining horse steroids from a Florida internet pharmacy. Further, they refuse to provide any detail whatever about their alleged drug testing/treatment policy, claiming that the policy is confidential.

Let Dixie Carter try and get away with that when Congress calls her to testify on steroid use and what promotions are doing about it.

Tick....tick...tick....boom.

Until next time...

Kurt Angle a celebrity victim

Send News

Yeah, he was arrested cause he was a celebrity and all.

Angle's attorney, Lyonel Huts released the following statement to TMZ.com

"Kurt Angle maintains his innocence relative to the charges brought by the police in this matter. The improper arrest occurred in the middle of the afternoon
after Mr. Angle showed no signs of intoxication. The police have no blood alcohol content and not firsthand knowledge of his operation of his vehicle.
We believe the motivation for this arrest is based upon Kurt Angle's celebrity status and we are confident that we will prevail when the truth becomes
evident."

The police don't have blood work because dude refused the test. He also failed field sobriaty tests.

Associated press picks up Angle story

The associate press has picked up on the story broken yesterday by a Pittsburgh TV station of Kurt Angle's arrest

Pro Wrestler Kurt Angle Charged With DUI

CORAOPOLIS, Pa. — Pro wrestler Kurt Angle was charged with drunken driving and careless driving when he drove home from a bar near his home in the Pittsburgh
suburbs last week, police said.

Angle was charged Friday after a motorist called police in Moon Township about 2 p.m. to report a Cadillac Escalade was driving erratically, according to
a police news release.

Police used the license number to determine the vehicle belonged to Angle and went to his home, where police said the wrestler acknowledged driving home
from a bar.

Angle appeared to be intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test before refusing a blood test, police said.

Angle, 38, won a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics before becoming a local television sportscaster and then a pro wrestler.

It was not immediately clear if Angle had an attorney. His home telephone number was unlisted.

Note from Casey: Dude was hammered at 2:00 in the afternoon.

Update: Lyonel Huts' defense of Angle begins

Working for TNA is part of his community service for his glug glug, veroom veroom, thump thump!!!

Send News

We'll see if Ric approves of that headline.

It seems that Kurt Angle was arrested last week for driving under the influence of something other than Vince Russo's stupid booking or Art's magic brownies.

Angle's quote on the situation:

Osifer, I am not as think as you [hickup] drunk I am. So [hickup] since I'm not home, you can take me [drunk]. I've got a good idea for a gimmick match, it is called a reverse last man standing match. My boss is a clueless baboon and I want to snap his fucking ankle!!! I can't believe I work for TNA!!! and now, now [hickup] they hired my wife so I can't tap ass on the road!!! [vomit]

I'm not saying he actually said this, but it would be so much more awesome if he did.

He refused a blood test because well, his shipment from Kevin Randleman hadn't arrived yet.

There is no truth to the rumor that he got blitzed after seeing the tape for tomorrow night's iMPACT.

One of TNA's team of doctor's assigned to monitor him dropped the ball, or was on the next stool which ever you pleasure.

Seriously, I'm having fun.

Kurt Angle in attendance at IFL event, claims to be negotiating with group

According to Alex Marvez at FoxSports.com.

A version of the story can be read here

It makes sense that he'd work for wrestling's TNA and the MMA equivalent.

Funk's Corner - Does Kurt Angle Have a Weakness?

Send News

Funk's Corner - Does Kurt Angle Have a Weakness?

Coming September 9th at "No Surrender," live on Pay Per View, Kurt Angle will defend the X Division Championship against the Black Machismo.

In a World Tag Team Championship Match, Kurt Angle and Sting will face Team PacMan.

In a World Heavyweight Championship Match, Kurt Angle will face the challenge of Abyss.

Leave it to TNA Wrestling to present something I have never seen before in professional wrestling. One man defending three different championships in three different matches.

Is Kurt Angle that good?

Kurt Angle participated in amateur wrestling in both high school and college. In college, Kurt Angle was a two time NCAA Division I Champion. Kurt Angle was a 2-time USA Senior Freestyle champion and the 1988 USA International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles Junior World Freestyle champion.

Kurt Angle then competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia where he won a gold medal in heavyweight freestyle wrestling.

Kurt Angle won his gold medal in the heavyweight class defeating Iranian Abbas Jadidi by officials decision after wrestling to an 8 minute 1-1 draw.

Kurt Angle accomplished all this after being injured in the Olympic trials fracturing two vertebrae, herniating two discs and pulling four muscles leading him to laying claim to have won the Olympic Gold Medal with a, "Broken Freakin' Neck."

After joining TNA, Kurt Angle became the second wrestler to win the Triple Crown. Kurt Angle also makes appearances for the Japan Based Inoki Genome Federation where he is the current IWGP Third Belt Champion (recognized by IGF and TNA as the IWGP World Championship.

Is Kurt Angle good enough to appear in three main events and defend three separate championships against top competition in TNA?

Does Kurt Angle have a weakness?

In all of my years of professional wrestling, I have yet to see a cowboy who couldn't be throwed or a horse that couldn't be rode.

Over Confidence - It is difficult to find a weakness in the wrestling skills of Kurt Angle however at this stage of his career, Kurt Angle could be overconfident in his skills. In facing the likes of Abyss, Team PacMan and the Black Machismo, any mistakes could be costly.

Temper - Kurt Angle is so intense he can blow sky high over small things. A bad call by a referee, a fan's comment from the front row, even a "first take down" by an opponent can blow Kurt Angle's temper.

Fatigue - Wrestling the top talent of TNA in three consecutive matches even with rest in between, can sap energy and leave Kurt Angle vulnerable to failure in execution.

His Wife Karen - Kurt Angle didn't have his wife, Karen in his corner when he won the Olympic Gold Medal. What kind of a man, champion or world class athlete should need his wife to back him up?

Karen Angle needs to get herself back in the kitchen, take her shoes off, give her kids some toys instead of dragging them from airport to airport, wash the dirty dishes, get some dinner on the table, do the laundry, give Kurt the TV remote back and for goodness sake, clean the house up. Karen Angle needs to know her role.

Kurt Angle could very well slip up in his quest to headline three main events at Summer Slam live on Pay Per View Sunday September 9th and look for the cause not to be over confidence, loss of temper or fatigue. However the deciding factor whether he wins or loses could be the interference of his wife, Karen Angle in his professional career.
