WWE notes for Thursday, November 1st

Send News and Event Results

-- The Bakersfield Californian has a Batista interview about his current autobiography which I think is a good read thus far. Batista will be doing a book signing this coming Monday at Borders on 4980 Stockdale Highway in Bakersfield, CA. Smackdown will be at Rabobank Arena [1001 Truxtun Ave.] on Tuesday night for a TV taping.

-- The race for the U.S. presidency compared to Monday Night Raw? Well there's never a dull moment in politics, the drama would give WWE a run for the money on that one.

-- WWE(R) Reports 2007 Third Quarter Results: the company reports a 16% increase in revenue Increase from the prior year.

-- On Billboard's Recreational Sports DVD sales chart Unforgiven is #1, Summerslam is #2, Mania 23 is #6, The Ladder Match is #8. Other titles include ones from UFC, TNA and Pride.

-- A conversation with Jimmy Hart and The Miz, now that's quite the duo there... here's a hilarious quote: The Miz, on his persona: "I am a chick magnet. It's no gimmick." I love this business.

-- Carlito makes an appearance at the Cineplex Odeon Meadowtown Centre Cinemas [19800 Lougheed Highway] in Pitt Meadows, BC on November 6th at 7PM for an autograph signing. The theater will show Survivor Series on November 18th.

Thanks to Mike Informer for sending these in:

-- The Baltimore Sun has a Q&A with Batista discussing his new book Batista Unleashed which I am currently reading and recommend although I assume most people are spending their money on Jericho's book. The Miami Herald has a review of Batista's book.

-- Here's an article on Martin Evans AKA Twinkletoes of Derby City Wrestling fame.

-- Sgt. Slaughter makes an appearance this Friday at The Mississippi Sea Wolves ECHL game at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

Alan Wojcik Reviews Batista Unleashed

Send News and Event Results

Please credit Alan J. Wojcik of http://alanwojcik.com if used, thanks.

Biographies are not new to pro wrestling. World Wrestling Entertainment has put out biographies of their superstars since the late 1990’s when Mick Foley wrote the first of his three NY Times Bestsellers. Since then we have seen books from people deserving one like the Rock, Ric Flair, Jerry Lawler, Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan and William Regal.) I have read all of them and never felt compelled to write about one, until now.

At an initial glance of the roster there is one superstar who I didn’t think deserved a book about them, that was until I read his book and truly believe he deserved it be published and receive the accolades that I hope will follow. That person is Dave Bautista AKA “the Animal” Batista the multi-time World Heavyweight champion. With the help of writer Jeremy Roberts, Bautista (the real spelling of his name according to the opening pages) give wrestling fans BATISTA UNLEASHED (WWE/Pocket Books, 305 pp, $26.00) one of the most honest books ever, not just in wrestling.

Think you had a tough childhood; try being Bautista who grew up in the not so glamorous Washington DC of the late 1970’s-early 1980’s where it was common to have dead people on your lawn when you got the morning newspaper. Bautista goes into his rough upbringing that led him to be in gangs and eventually group homes in addition to being moved around the country by his divorced parents. Think you might have changed professions too late in life; try being a thirty year old bodybuilder-night club bouncer who attended a defunct WCW Power Plant open call and being told you’re not good enough for wrestling. That’s exactly what happened to Bautista and a friend in 1999 before he found his way to the Pennsylvania based Wild Samoan’s training facility.

From there the fast road to superstardom begins. Going from the Samoan’s to OVW (WWE’s developmental Ohio Valley Wrestling) where Jim Cornette re-imagined him into Leviathan (where he met the Prototype AKA WWE Superstar John Cena) to his WWE debut as Deacon Batista with Reverend Devon (Brother Devon of Team 3D.) Next thing you know you are reading about Triple H, Ric Flair, Randy Orton and the forming of the Evolution group that got Batista title reigns and main events on PPV’s. Mixed in are stories of traveling around the globe as part of the WWE and the fun times wrestling the top stars like The Undertaker, Goldberg, Scott Steiner, Edge and later on his own Evolution running mates. My personal favorite is a funny story of a bad trip with Bobby Lashley and Ken sorry…Mr. Kennedy.

During the trip to the top we also find out the pitfalls that nearly stopped Bautista in his tracks like being a parent before he got out of high school, failed marriages, infidelity with co-workers (the internet rumors are true and Bautista hates the internet) and his own teenage daughter being a parent. As I mentioned Bautista has nothing to hide but doesn’t go into great details in certain topics. You come away from reading this book hoping Bautista and his family is happy and healthy and he competes for many years to come.

WWE adds another match to Cyber Sunday and it is a WrestleMania rematch

Send News

Yes, WWE has added a rematch of this past WrestleMania to Cyber Sunday and no it is not MVP Vs. Chris Benoit.

The match is for the world heavyweight championship and is between Batista and the Undertaker. The fans get to pick the special referee, big fat hairy deal. The ref choices are: Steve Austin, JBL and Mick Foley.

Cyber Sunday is shaping up like this...

  1. WWE Championship Match: Randy Orton Vs. Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy or Mr. Kennedy - Fans choice
  2. World Heavyweight Championship Match: Batista Vs. Undertaker - Special Ref/fans choice, Steve Austin Mick Foley or JBL
  3. ECW Championship Match: CM Punk Vs. John Morrison, Big Daddy V or The Miz - Fans Choice

My choice is for WWE to stop giving us this stupid concept for a PPV every year.

Batista responds to Signature Pharmacy allegations

Send News

From his site:
To my fans and friends:
I categorically deny a report on ESPN.com, and repeated by other media outlets, that I am or ever have been a customer of Signature Pharmacy of Orlando, an on-line pharmacy company that is a target of an investigation by the Albany, New York District Attorney's Office.

I am being tested regularly by the WWE, and I am in full compliance with the WWE Wellness Program.

I regret the inaccurate reporting, and I will do all I can in the future to stop any publication or anyone from making such false accusations.

Names linked to Signature Pharmacy starting to come out...

Send News

Earlier today we noted that WWE has suspended 10 wrestlers under its wellness policy for their connections to signature farmasy. Some of the names connected to Signature are starting to come out...
ESPN.com's story lists some, and
The New York Daily News lists more. We actually have more names than people suspended...thus far. and just because a name is listed doesn't mean they were one of the 10 suspended, WWE has not released that information at this time. It also doesn't mean that those 10 will be the extent of the suspensions when it is all said and done.

  1. Funaki
  2. Batista
  3. John Morrison
  4. Chris Masters
  5. Shane Helms
  6. Randy Orton
  7. Booker T
  8. Charlie Haas
  9. Edge
  10. Mike "Simon Dean" Bucci
  11. Santino
  12. Chavo Guerrero
  13. William Regal
  14. Ken Kennedy

Dave Meltzer notes that some of these perscriptions predate the wellness policy, which is why in fairness to Ken Kennedy, I have removed the text that initially appeared here.

Anyone that is suspended for crimes committed before the introduction of the Wellness policy would probably have a good grievence should they choose to pursue it but WWE is under a lot of pressure from the government (who probably knew these names already) and it would've looked bad had they not acted.

Meltzer seems to suggest even more names have yet to come out.
