Welcome to the combat-hooligans.com live coverage of Showtime and EliteXC's 'Uprising'.
As a refresher you can see our predictions here Everyone but Danger, Euan myself and Our Greatness are pussies.
ProElite.com will stream bouts once the Showtime portion is over, and someone else somewhere can cover those because not only am I tired and hungry but ProElite rarely works for me.
We've got 5 bouts scheduled, and you can get round-by-round updates and scoring by refreshing this page in your browser.
We'll be getting started shortly. It appears I am an audience of 1 tonight, and combine that with tiredness and hunger, if these fights are boring I will get pissed quickly.

EXC showcased the title fight, plus Shields, Carano, Diaz and Villasenor in their opening hype video. If Shields, Carano, Diaz and Villasenor all lost I'd find that funny.

The talking heads run down the card while the drums beat in the background. I'm more listening to the drumming to be honest.
Each fighter gets a video introduction proceeding their entrence.
Referee: Mario Yamasaki
Yamasaki goes from England to Hawaii in a week, sucks to have his schedule.
R1: Standing exchange doesn't last long before VErissimo gets a takedown. Shields just stands right back up though. Shields scores his own takedown and Verissimo goes to closed guard. Shields nails some body shots on the ground. Verissimo working from his guard but is eating Shields elbows like some people eat chips. Shields moves to side control and then to the full mount. Verissimo gives up his back and eating some ground and pound. Shields just unloads with strikes until Yamasaki stops the fight.
Winner: Jake Shields - R1 4:00 via Ground and Pound
Shields was dominant and finished like I predicted he would.
Goldberg interviews Shields. If he says anything of note, it is that Verissimo is one of his favorite fighters. Yeah, I like guys who it is proven I can beat their ass.
J.D. Penn sounds a lot like his brother. He made some sort of presentation to Shields. Shields' next EXC fight could be for a welterweight crown.
Referee: Steve Mazagatti
R1: Fukuda and I'd better not commit any typos on that name, takes Villasenor to the mat almost immediately. He goes in to side mount and looks for a triangle choke. Villasenor escapes out and it pops the crowd. Back to the feet and they're trading shots with Fukuda getting the better of it. Big kick to the body by Fukuda and then hits a liver-kick. Fukuda hits a bodyshot and takes Joe down into the fense. Less than 2:00 left and Fukuda is pretty much in control. Fukuda is rocked with a left and then rocks Joe with a left. They're slinging fists and then Villasenor hits a nice headkick. Villasenor hits another headkick and has come on strong to end the round.
Scoring: Fukuda's round 10-9 but Villasenor made it interesting.
R2: They clinch but Joe elbows out and then hits another headkick. Joe Villasenor is trying to land a job as an NFL placekicker at the expense of Fukuda's head but Fukuda isn't going anywhere. Fukuda lands a strike and hooks a body lock attempting a takedown. Fukuda does more attacking to the body.
Villasenor appears tired, his mouth is open and hands are dropping. Joe connects with a right gets a bodylock but lets it go. Mazagatti calls for action and then repositions them. Villasenor nails a nice punch/kick combination. Another flury at 5 seconds left in the round and we're getting another round!
Scoring: Villasenor 10-9 but another close one. 19-19 thus far.
R3: They end up in the clinch right away and it is pretty much a draw. They're standing and trading some shots again after Fukuda landed a nice left hook. Fukuda hits a bodykick and these guys have really been laying into one another. Joe hits an uppercut and I'm all of a sudden not tired. Fukuda finally shoots for a takedown and gets it.
Fukuda gets full mount and just as quickly as he does, Villasenor reverses out of it. Have I mentioned loving this fight yet? Mauro says: "After last week in England, I think anyone would be happy to not be an MMA judge." I wonder what he's talking about? Did something happen in England?
Mazagatti calls for some action as it slows down. We're down to the final minute. Fukuda rocks Villasenor with a couple of punches but Villasenor shakes them off. We go to the judges...
Scoring: 10-9 for Joe Villasenor but this was also close. 29-28 Joe Villasenor.
Winner: Smokin' Joe Villasenor (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
This was a close fight and nobody got Hamilled. Villasenor gives a lot of credit to Fukuda in the post-fight and he deserves it. Joe's presentation is a lot more quiet until Goldberg starts yelling for people to cheer.
Oh, and that's 0-4 for me in picking the correct outcome of Joe Villasenor fights.

R1: Evinger scores with a right and takes Gina down, that was quick. Mauro Ranallo just morfed in to Jerry Lawler for a second talking about a 25 CM poll.
Evinger goes for a choke but Carano defends. Carano goes for a sweep and lands elbows against the fense. Carano goes for a rear naked choke (emphasis on naked) as she took Evinger's back.
Gina Carano just submitted Tonya Evinger.

I'm not going to say anything more other than LaRosa, Buckner or Baszler.
Gina Benoit: "I just wanted to choke her until she didn't breath anymore. Why won't you die?" Goldberg then panders by saying: "Lets hear it for the face of Women's MMA!!" I used to like Bill as a commentator, not on this night.
Ric's reaching for the jar of hot and spicy honey mustard as his boy Nick Diaz-Orton is up next.
Aina's 5 losses have been by decision, never KO'd or submitted.
Diaz has 1 no contest on his record, wonder how that happened?

R1: Fight is on the feet as expected, ref stops the fight for a "wardrobe malfunction" and we're back at it. They do some more trading of shots. Aina is really trying and landing shots but Diaz is withstanding all the shots. Announcers tease a rematch between Diaz and Gomi in EXC. Don't count your mustard jars before they're emptied.
Aina standing with Diaz and trading shots but Diaz just takes them in stride.
Scoring: Aina's round 10-9 but I feel like Diaz is ok with that.
R2: Diaz hits a nice body kick from Diaz to start the round. Aina just rocks Nick Diaz who ends up on the ground, Diaz probably isn't down with that. 2 of 3 judges gave Aina round 1 like I did. Diaz eats another shot covered in mustard but no Ketchup yet.
Diaz wants to take the fight to the mat because getting owned in the standup isn't cool. Diaz starts picking Aina apart with the Nick Diaz strikes that Euan knows and hates but what work for Diaz clearly. Diaz looking for a takedown and he finally secures it with 30 seconds left. He's got the mount and Aina is lucky the round is so close to ending. Aina holds on.
Scoring: The way the round ended, it goes to Diaz even with the knockdown. 10-9 Diaz, 19-19 overall.
R3: They clinch early. Diaz starts peppering Aina with the jabs again and then nails a nice elbow, uppercut and then a knee. Now the slugfest has started and they trade strikes and shots as the crowd pops. Diaz looks for a takedown but Aina's sprawl is nice. Diaz takes Aina down with a minute and 40 seconds to go, much more time than he had in round 2. 30 seconds left and Aina is still in a spot that you'd call not good, but Diaz looks for an armbar but the round ends.
Scoring: I'm giving the third to Diaz 10-9 and 29-28 fight but an Aina victory will not surprise me.
Winner: Nick Diaz via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)
Once again, this isn't a Hamill situation. I scored for Diaz because he was closer to finish. I'm not sure I give it to Diaz 30-27.

Talk of whether Ninja's striking is on par with Lawler's. I don't think it is but I think the striking battle is closer than the ground battle.
Referee: Mario Yamasaki
R1: Takedown by Lawler to start the round but Ninja gets back up. Ninja nails a good hook and is taking it to Lawler standing. Lawler blocks Rua's high-kcik but not Rua's low-kick. Lawler is hitting more combo punches while Ninja is going for more single strikes. Quadros calls for Ninja to go for a low-kick which is what he does. Rua nails some more nice low-kicks. Lawler nails a high-kick of his own to end the round.
Scoring: Lawler got the takedown, but didn't do much. Ninja got to the feet and did more with the strikes, 10-9 for Ninja. You go the other way? Fine!
R2: Lawler starts out by taking the agressive approach on the feet. Rua tries a takedown but Lawler successfully defends and starts pressing Rua toward the fense. Ninja appears to be tiring. Rua tries takedowns, and Lawler avoids them. Rua hits a body-kick but it doesn't real do any serious damage. Round ends.
Scoring: Round 1 was a lot closer. Round 2 was all Lawler's. 10-9, 19-19.
R3: Lawler hits a nice kick-punch combo to open the round and nails another big punch. Now the low-kicks of Ninja aren't really being as effective. Lawler hits a head-kick and then jacks his jaw with a straight right. A combination on Rua knocks him down, some G&P later and a new champion is crowned. Hey, I got the round right, I just got the method of stoppage and the winner wrong. You know what they say, 1/3 isn't good.
Winner: Robbie Lawler - R3 TKO
Lawler sounds like he's 6, only kidding.
A pretty damn good night of fighting all thing's considered. Close decisions, hard to argue, unlike last week.
Call me an EXC mark if you will but I love this promotion.

Interesting that Lawler is the favorite but in the informal media poll I took part in, Rua won 7-4.
The only person on this whole list I'd bet on at those odds is Evinger and I'd probably bet a lot.
