UFC/Spike TV deal extended through 2011

Send News and Event Results

TV Week reports that Spike TV has extended UFC's deal through 2011. The agreement includes four more seasons of "The Ultimate Fighter", four UFC Fight nights for every year and 39 episodes of "UFC Unleashed".

“We are paying the UFC more money than Joe Torre turned down from the Yankees,” said Kevin Kay, president of Spike TV, which picked up the UFC after World Wrestling Enterprises moved to USA Network. “The most important thing for me is we’re still in business with the UFC and we secured our future long-term with them, because I think we’re both critical to each other’s success.”

Dana White to announce Wanderlei Silva's first opponent in his return to UFC on TV tonight

Send News and Event Results

That's the word according to Pramit Mohapatra's post at the Baltimore Sun's MMA Insider blog

The announcement is set to come during the 2007 scream awards at 10:00 PM ET/9 CT on SpikeTV.

It has long been speculated that the opponent would be former Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell before a loss to Keith Jardine at UFC 76 put that in doubt.

This follows a special where SpikeTV counts down the top 25 TUFest moments in Ultimate Fighter history.

I'll be watching neither.

TNA iMPACT goes HD in early 2008

Send News

According to this article from TVWeek SpikeTV will be launching an HD channel next year and one of the shows specifically mentioned as being shot in HD starting in the first quarter of 2008 will be TNA iMPACT.

So even when the booking has a glaring absense in clarity, the picture won't.

Yes, soon TNA will be in HD. So you'll still have no idea why 6 men just ran in but at least you'll be able to identify them.

I personally can't wait for this, I mean I've always wondered what a crowd shot would look like in HD with a highspot being missed at the same time.

The only real benefit for me is Gail Kim in all her glory. This is negated by the fact that I still don't own an HD set. Want to help me buy an HD set? Hit the donate button or google ads or whatever.
