An Apology and a quick site note
Send News and Event Results
When we launched Combat-Hooligans.com back in July of 2007 I wanted our site to be a reliable source of news and commentary.
When I say I wanted it to be reliable I meant both in terms of information presented and in terms of delivering what we’ve advertised. I have prided myself on not missing a show I had committed to do even when I would’ve rather been doing something else or anything else in the world. I've covered shows while ill, I've covered shows opposite of other events I'd rather have participated in and I don't think I've missed a day of posting something since the Old country corner days.
On Friday 02/29 however, I promised something that I didn’t deliver. I promised Live IFL coverage and live coverage of the Kim Couture fight from Las Vegas. I knew I was headed for trouble early afternoon so I decided to purchase a couple of energy drinks to help me stay awake for the show.
Well, I drank one of those energy drinks at 8:30 and waited for 10:00 for the show to start. I decided to lay down before the show started and if the drink didn’t keep me awake maybe I could get a quick power nap to feel a little more awake when it was show time. I set my alarm to go off 15 minutes before I was to start the show.
I slept right through it and didn’t wake up until the IFL show was nearly over and at that time I was not in any condition to review the last 2 fights. I posted a quick note of apology and then resolved to clear my head in time for Kim Couture’s fight as that was the only one I had an interest in covering from the Smoker at Xtreme Couture.
I fell asleep again though I was awake during the fight and did write up what I felt was a poor account after the thing was over.
The fact is that I don’t think I was so much tired as I was burned out. My enthusiasm for wht I have been doing lately has slipped a little. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world but lately it has started to feel more like a chor than anything else.
I think this is as a result of doing an incredible amount of stuff in a short amount of time. I’ve made some pretty huge sacrifices for this site, as have others, and some of them our regular readers wouldn’t even know about unless they knew what places to look.
So to help ensure that the IFL situation doesn’t happen again, I have decided that upon the conclusion of my live coverage of UFC 82, I will be taking a few days off from the site to recharge my battery. I feel I’ve earned that much, and to be honest the most difficult part will be staying away because I’ve said I was going to take a day or 2 here and there but didn’t or more probably wouldn’t.
My intention is to be back for Ring of Combat coverage on Friday, and then I’m planning to do Boxing and MMA back to back with coverage of the 2 events airing on March 8 on Showtime.
I’m not making an excuse, I said I’d do something and I failed. I came down hard on another person back in September for this kind of thing and so I would be a hipocrit if I also didn’t come down on myself. I apologize for making the site look bad, for making myself look bad and for failing to deliver on a promise. All I can do is try to do enough to prove that this will not happen again from me in the future. I can’t promise it because I broke the last promise I made, but hopefully over time my actions will do enough to prove it.
Thank you for your continued support of the website.
