MONDAY NIGHT RAW RECAP FOR OCTOBER 1ST, 2007

THE BIG NEWS:

Randy Orton demolished John Cena after a surprise attack.


WHAT HAPPENED?

Shows starts with three jobbers in the ring looking all to confused. Vince McMahon comes out to the ring. He begins by talking about his match with Triple H later on and guarantee's victory. He then faked the fact that he was going to demonstrate what he was going to do to Triple H on these innocent jobbers and instead calls out Umaga. Umaga destroys all of the men with various finishing moves. Not much of an opening to the show.

Jeff Hardy/London/Kendrick vs Benjamin/Cade/Murdock:

London starts the match out strong. Benjamin comes back with a nice overhead press into a stomach buster. Cade is tagged in and works over Kendrick. Kendrick makes a come back with a side kick and tags in Hardy. Hardy cleans house and hits the whisper in the wind on Cade. He goes back to the top rope but gets hit down by Benjamin. London gets on the side apron and hits a running shooting star press onto the outside which looked impressive. Kendrick gets in the ring and hits his finisher on Cade which sets Hardy up for the Swanton bomb for the pin fall. Great way to start the show as it reminded me of how WCW Monday Night Nitro always started their shows. Very quick and attention getting.

Vince McMahon wants Regal to watch Hornswoggle for him.

Randy Orton sent another message to Cena via satellite (backstage) saying the same old thing that he usually does.

The Highlanders tell Regal backstage that they want to be the WWE Tag Team Champions. Maybe this would have been a credible statement if they weren't completely buried in every single match they have been in for the past four or five months.

Cody Rhodes vs Hardcore Holly:

Hard shoulder block by Holly to start the match. Rhodes comes back with arm drags and a headlock. Dropkick by holly followed by vicious chops. Rhodes hits the backslide and cradle for the two count. Holly goes for a back body drop but Rhodes flips out of it and goes for the roll up and gets a two count. Holly grabs Rhodes off the top rope and hits the Alabama Slam for the pin fall. Rhodes needs a lot more work in the ring.

Beth Phoenix comes out and explains that she is a Glamazon which I believe is not a word in the English language. Phoenix tells lillian Garcia to announce her as the new Women's champion. Garcia sarcastically states this fact so Phoenix begins choking her out but Candice Michelle runs in and makes the save.

Vince McMahon vs Triple H

First off, Vince McMahon needs to stop booking himself in wrestling matches. The match starts up after Carlito makes his way down to the ring as the special referee for the match. I first notice an N.W.O sign in the crowd which made me whimper a little bit thinking about the good old WCW days. Vince runs around the ring but Triple H finally gets to him and beats his head into the announce table. Carlito gets upset and pushes Triple H so he Pushes back in return. Triple H gets into the ring and goes for the pedigree but gets the backstabber from behind instead. Carlito puts McMahon over Triple H and begins counting but Triple H kicks out. Triple H hits McMahon with a low blow in the corner and punches Carlito to the outside. Carlito then calls for the bell making McMahon the winner via DQ. Umaga came out and traded blows with Triple H. Both men got various moves in on each other but in the end, Umaga was scared away by Triple H and his sledgehammer.

Santino Mirella came out with Maria for “Mirella at the movies” for a review on The Condemned Dvd. He said that it sucked and did various video bits showing just that. Val Venus comes out and asks Maria to star in a movie with him. Mirella gets mad and was about to leave but instead beat down Venus with various knee shots.

Cena cuts a promo about nothing. He just yells really loudly and says that he will never quit. How Aw inspiring! Ha ha.

Melina vs Mickie James:

Back and forth punching with some hairpulling to start the match. Mickie hits a nice Huracanrana from the top rope but Melina gets up and has Mickie ready for her finisher when Hornswoggle pops up from under the ring and distracts her. This allowed Mickie to roll Melina up for the pin fall. She gets mad and runs after Hornswoggle and eventually makes it under the ring.10 seconds later, he comes out with her bra and later her panties and runs away.

Ron Simmons throws Steve-o through the door backstage after he tries to make Simmons “a real man.”

John Cena vs Mr. Kennedy:

Headlock by Kennedy to start the match. Cena comes back with a couple of arm drags. Kicks and choke maneuvers by Kennedy. A TNA style chant starts up in the crowd where they chant for both Kennedy and Cena back and forth. Cena was getting his cheers from mostly teenage girls which is pretty usual for him. After the commercial break, Kennedy hits Cena with a DDT for a two count. Cena recovers and hits Kennedy with a back body drop and applies the STFU for the quick tap out. Orton comes in as expected and lays out Cena with the RKO. Orton drags Cena to the outside and hits him in the head with the ring steps and later a computer monitor. Orton Finishes this tirade with a good RKO on the announce table. He counts John Cena out implying that he will be the last man standing at No Mercy.


Final Thoughts:

This was a C- show. Although it didn't help the build for No Mercy all to much, It did feature some Decent wrestling and storyline. My biggest complaint comes from the main event where I thought it should have gone longer and shouldn't have ended with a Mr. Kennedy tap out for various reasons that I will talk about increasingly as I continue to do these reviews.
