TNA IMPACT: 9/6/07 Recap by Erik Anderson

THE BIG NEWS:

Abyss gets a well deserved pin fall on the current TNA champion Kurt Angle.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Show starts with team Pacman outside saying that they are going to spraypaint somebody tonight and it was going to be “The Big Dog.”

Kaz vs. Tomco:

Tomco starts out with a vicious chop on Kaz. Kaz comes back with kicks, punches, and an arm kick. Arm bar is applied. Mrs. Brooks and Robert Roode are
out to cause a little trouble. Closeline by Tomco followed by a throw to the corner and a side elbow to drive Kaz to the mat. Tomco power slams Kaz for
the two count. Kaz goes to the outside so Roode tries for a punch but misses and hit’s the ring post. Kaz enters the ring with a springboard kick on
Tomco and rushes to the ropes and connects with a baseball slide on Roode onto the floor. Kaz climbs the top rope but gets chopped by Tomco. Kaz recovers
and hit’s the swinging DDT for a near fall. Tomco connects with a big boot and a double choke slam for the three count. Roode is in for the beat down
on Kaz. He later yells at Mrs. Brooks so Tomco moves her out of the way and pushes Roode to the floor. This was a very effective segment for a mid card
feud. This is exactly what the WWE needs to learn how to do. Raw has a two hour show and yet they can’t seem to find a way to build a mid card feud that
people care about at all.

The dream team of Kurt Angle and Sting are back stage. Sting says that he can’t trust an Angle. He runs down Kurt and his wife Karen. Kurt seems to agree
with Sting and leaves with him.

Harris is backstage. He cuts a promo on Black Rain. He says that this character isn’t the Dustin that he knows. He ends by saying that he can get “Sick”
as well and is coming for blood at No Surrender.

Jay Lethal is backstage and explains how he is excited for his X-division title shot against Kurt Angle. Abyss walks into the picture using his newly
found voice to say that he will beat Kurt Angle for the TNA title at No Surrender.

James Storm is at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting to look for Rhino. He offers them beer which of course would be counter productive and the leader of
the group gets mad. Storm asks them if Rhino was here because he is a drunk. They say that they don’t know where he is so Storm leaves. This was a funny
segment along with the rest of them for the past three weeks.

Raven vs. Samoa Joe:

Raven enters the ring looking as gross as ever. He starts with offense on Joe. Joe comes back with a couple whips to the railing followed by a face wash
kick against the steel. Back in the ring with a close line in one corner and a high kick in the next on Raven. Joe goes for the another kick but Raven
grabs the Kendo Stick. A.J Styles is out with a Kendo Stick and hits Joe from behind while the ref was probably looking at somebody’s shirt in the audience.
Commercial. Backdrop by Joe. Raven mounts some offensive and connects with a stupid looking side kick from the top rope. A.J jumps up and grabs Joe so
that Raven could smother him with some sort of rag device. Joe ducks and he gets Styles instead. Joe gets the submission on Raven for the tap out. After
the match. Joe attacks Styles but Tomco and Christian make their way out. Christian with a chair shot on Joe. They beat Joe down and handcuff him to
the rope. Joe’s dancers come for the save only to get destroyed by the coalition. Devastating chair shot to the head on one of the dancers as Joe cries
in the corner. This was also a very effective segment but like usual, it felt incredibly rushed and edited. The match was sub par but that’s pretty good
for an Impact taping.

Rhino is on the phone with Mike Tenay and Don West and he explains that Storm can find him in the middle of the ring at No Surrender.

Jay Lethal/Abyss vs. Sting/Kurt Angle:

Sting starts on the offense. Jay Lethal comes back with a nice cartwheel into a drop kick. Abyss is tagged in and stares Sting down to play up their past
feuds. He points at Kurt Angle and wants a piece. Angle is in and goes for the German Suplex and gets denied as Abyss reverses it into a arm bar. Abyss
connects with a body slam during a terrible edit by the TNA crew as the crowd was being shown for some reason during this part. Kick by Abyss. Commercial.
We come back to Angle connecting with a belly to belly slam on Lethal. Sting is tagged in and connects with kicks, body slam, and a backwards splash
on Lethal. Suplex gets a two count. Angle is in and gets a European uppercut and a backbreaker for a two count. This leads into a headlock on lethal.
Finally Lethal makes his first attempt at offense and hits a huracanrana on Angle. Angle hit’s the German suplex to stop the comeback. Sting gets tagged
in and they have a double collision which amounts to a double tag to the corners. Abyss cleans house and hit’s the shock treatment on Angle for a good
near fall. Lethal climbs on Abyss’s shoulders and hit’s the flying elbow for the amazing near fall. Choke slam on Angle. Cover but the save by Sting.
Sting goes for the Stinger Splash on Lethal in the corner but it gets blocked and they fall to the outside apron. Angle gets Abyss in the Olympic slam
but Abyss kicks out. Angle tears his tights down and goes for the ankle lock but it gets reversed. Abyss then hits the black hole slam for the final
three count. Abyss goes for the tacks but James Mitchell comes down to the ring and Abyss goes after him. This allows team Pacman to come out from the
crowd and tag Angle’s back with spray paint.

Final Thoughts:

I would consider this edition of Impact to be sub par. There seemed to be a decent build for No Surrender and the matches were decent as well. The unreal
effect of Impact’s editing, lighting, backstage aura and so forth brings my interest level way down on the product. I was at Slammiversary live in June
and the show looked great but the Impact Zone seems to be a place for the redundant visually and psychologically for the performers and viewers. Although
the build for No Surrender was big tonight, I am still not interested at all in any of the matches on the pay per view. I will be directing most of my
attention to Saturday night when Henderson faces off against Rampage.
